![]() If you want to make a LEGO set with hundreds or thousands of pieces, you want to plan it out first. But for anything over about a hundred pieces, you'll need a plan, both for building the set itself and for acquiring the specific pieces you need. I have seen posts everywhere of people in the same boat as me so I wanted to give them a way to get their hard work back.Of course, anyone can make a new LEGO creation out of existing sets, or more commonly, combining the pieces of existing sets. until I found a copy of the assets.lif file on another hard drive. My model design was useless and I gave up building it since I would need to start the entire thing from scratch in Stud.io. When my laptop died, I reinstalled the latest LDD only to find my model was missing 2000 bricks since the LDD update server is no longer in operation. I spent over $1200 over the course of many months trying to gather all the bricks needed for the build. ![]() I spent a month designing a model with nearly 7000 bricks a couple years ago. The file I found gives them back the ability to open and modify their old designs. ![]() The problem is if you built something in LDD in the past few years, it will be missing a ton of reference bricks and it will also not port over to Stud.io. My post is for those that currently already have models in LDD that they don't want to lose. You'll notice it's twice the size of the one in there, nearly 1gb. Simply download and extract the file in the link below to "C:\Program Files (x86)\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer" and overwrite the old LIF file. I hope this helps with those that spent time on a model they could no longer load. It contains the last update for all the bricks up to late 2017 and may be what some of you needed if your previously created model is missing a bunch of bricks upon loading. until I found the LIF file on an old hard drive from 2018! I have uploaded the Assets.lif file for anyone to grab. That made my previous models impossible to fully load because of all the missing bricks that are referenced in the build. Even many older bricks that were added later are all missing when you install the software. Since the support server no longer exists, access to the last good Assets.lif file from 2017 is no longer possible and when you install the program you only get bricks that were included up to a certain point many years ago. I was disappointed when I installed the Lego Digital Designer a few months ago only to find that it wasn't supported and nearly half the bricks were missing from the default install even though it was the final 4.3.11.
